"STILL" is a series of photographic lightboxes that depict the area (front and rear entryways) of IMPRENTA. These partly documented- partly staged momements represent a kind of quiet, insistent resistance engaged with the immediate location of MacArthur Park, Los Angeles. IMPRENTA is an artist-run space that organizes exhibitions, screenings, a free HIV clinic, and a legal clinic for low income trans people of color. “The fist is still up” is a quotation from Jack Doroshow (aka “Flawless Sabrina”), who performed at The Silver Platter in December 2008. Sabrina describes her first encounter with the bar as a kind of flashback: “It was deja vu, it was also daytime, but this place was familiar to me out of another life, back when I was running the contests [in the early 60s]. We sold tickets out of this place... There was something about the nature, it can’t be just the bricks and mortar - but that fist was there! And these children weren’t putting up with any shit, that’s right! That was long before Stonewall...” Color transparency and light-boxes, 36x48x5
